Winners circle:
Mario Andretti on his way to win the rainy 1976 Japanese Grand Prix, held at Fuji Speedway, driving his Lotus 77. He had also qualified first, but his skillful drive was overshadowed by the Championship battle between James Hunt and Niki Lauda who went into the race with a three point difference. Four drivers withdrew due to the weather conditions: one of these was Mr. Lauda, who then also lost the Championship.
