Most of the sport’s major players refused to take part in practice. Jacky Ickx was not a member of the GPDA, and one of the few marquee drivers who did practice. Mairesse crashed during the 1963 German Grand Prix. The #Ferrari turned over multiple times after swerving off the track.

He was rushed to the hospital with a broken arm.
